1. According to the global financial services firm Nomura's report a gradual recovery is underway for the Indian economy and the country is expected to clock a GDP growth of 5.5 per cent in the current fiscal and 6.6 per cent in FY16. The recovery is likely to get support from easing inflationary pressures and measures towards economic reforms.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the LED bulb as a “Prakash Path” – “way to light,” as he launched a scheme for LED bulb distribution under the domestic efficient lighting programme in Delhi; and a National Programme for LED-based Home and Street Lighting. The initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to spread the message of energy efficiency in the country. LED bulbs have a very long life, almost 50 times more than ordinary bulbs, and 8-10 times that of CFLs, and therefore provide both energy and cost savings in the medium term.

3. Well-known Telugu playwright and dialogue writer Ganesh Patro passed away at a private hospital. He was 69.

4. R. Koteeswaran took charge as new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of public sector Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). He succeeded M. Narendra. He is appointed for a period of three years or till the date of superannuation, whichever is earlier.

5. Tamil Nadu government rolled out the 'Amma Cement' scheme, where it will sell cement at a subsidised rate. According to the scheme, launched by AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister in September last year, the government will procure two lakh tonnes of cement from private sector and sell it at Rs 190 per bag in all Corporation, Municipalities and other local body limits.

6. Sutirtha Bhattacharya took charge as Coal India's full-time chairman and managing director. Prior to this, Bhattacharya was the CMD of state-owned Singareni Collieries Company.

7. Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara became the fastest run-scorer in Test cricket to make12,000 runs. He achieved this on his 224th innings on the first day of second Test against New Zealand.

8. Government of India signed an agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a $75 million loan and a $1.8 million grant that will help improve water resource management in three towns of Karnataka in the Upper Tungabhadra sub-basin. This loan from the ADB’s Ordinary Capital Resources has a 25-year term including a grace period of five years.

9. L&T Hydrocarbon and Engineering, a subsidiary company of L&T, has bagged an offshore contract worth Rs. 894 crore from Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for additional development of the Vasai East project.

10. Andy Murray won the Mubadala World Tennis Championship at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi. He won the title after the world number one Novak Djokovic withdrew from the final match citing illness. Murray defeated Rafael Nadal. This was the first title of year 2015 for Andy Murray.
