‘Prem Ya Paheli Chandrakanta’ Life Ok Latest News

Television’s classic drama Chandrakanta is making a return on Life OK .It will bringing fresh adaptations of the popular novel, which inspired the TV series of the same name in 1994. The show is produced by Nikhil Sinha, who earlier helmed the much-loved mythological series Siya Ke Ram.

The promos have hit the screens and the show looks grand. The cast has already begun shooting for the upcoming historical series.

The story is a romantic fantasy about two lovers who belong to rival kingdoms: the princess Chandrakanta of Vijaygarh, and the prince Virendra Singh of Naugarh. Krur Singh, a member of the Vijaygarh king's court dreams of marrying Chandrakanta and taking over the throne.

When Krur Singh fails in his endeavour, he flees the kingdom and befriends Shivdutt, the powerful neighbouring king of Chunargarh (a renaming of "Chunar-fort", referring to the fort in Chunar that inspired Khatri to write the novel).

Krur Singh coaxes Shivdutt to ensnare Chandrakanta at any cost. Shivdutt captures Chandrakanta and while running away from Shivdutt, Chandrakanta finds herself a prisoner in a tilism. After that Kunvar Virendra Singh breaks the tilism and fights with Shivdutt with the help of aiyyars .

Kritika Kamra, the actor known for her multifaceted roles, beauty and charm will be seen playing the role Chandrakanta. Gaurav Khanna, known for his romantic roles with boy next door imagery will be seen in the role of a warrior prince Virendra Singh. Chandrakanta shall re-introduce the audience to believe in wonders and magic.

The shows narrates a never-heard-before prelude to the story from 400 years ago where Kritika Kamra and Gaurav Khanna will be seen in double roles and will continue the story many years later and with their power together conquer the tilismic world. The audience shall be introduced to a prologue of the story Chandrakanta and the birth of this Tilismi duniya. The show eventually focuses on the journey of Virendra Singh whose cosmic love for Chandrakanta paves way to his destiny, something which is unknown to him as well.  

Star-cast

Kamra, who was last seen opposite Rajeev Khandelwal almost a year-and-a-half ago, has started preparing for the part. Speaking about the new project, Kamra said, “I have never been part of a costume drama before. I have watched the first ‘Chandrakanta’ as a child, but nostalgia isn’t the reason I am taking it up. I found the script interesting. The central character is not only a beautiful woman, but she’s also a fighter and has a sense of purpose.”

Who has been a part of popular episodic shows like Crime Patrol, Savdhan India,  has been finalized to play the role of Shakuntala. She will be Chandrakanta's close friend and confidante.

According to Life OK, their version of Chandrakanta has the concept and the story for the show in place. “We have also shot for the pilot episode, though not with the final cast. The episode has been shot to give a feel of how the show will be. We are yet to zero in on the cast. Our original plan was to have the show on air in February. But now with Colors in competition, we might change our plan,” added the insider from Life OK.
