1. Reliance Industries has regained the top slot among Indian energy companies on the Platts global list by surpassing state-owned ONGC in the rankings for this year. In all, 14 Indian energy companies made it to the 2015 Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings.
2. BRICS nations Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa signed Moscow Declaration for co-investment of resources for supporting multilateral Research and Development (R&D) Projects in mutually agreed areas. The Moscow Declaration was signed during the third meeting of the BRICS Ministers for Science, Technology and Innovation that was held in Moscow, Russia. Indian delegation to this meeting was led by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences.
3. The government has cleared a proposal to re-employ senior IPS officer Sharad Kumar as Chief of National Investigating Agency (NIA) for a period of one year after he retires on 31st October 2015 on the post of Director General.
4. Union Government nominated Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das as a Director to the Central Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The nomination of Das is effective from 30 October 2015 and until further orders.
5. Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) signed an agreement with China National United Fuel Corporation (CNUFC) in Beijing for supply of petroleum products from China so as to counter shortages caused by the blockade of land routes from India due to unrest over the new constitution. With the signing of this agreement India lost its decades old status as the sole supplier of fuel commodities to Nepal.
6. World’s largest data center company NTT Communications (Japan) opened India’s largest data center in Mumbai. NTT Communications is world’s largest data center company having its data centers all across the globe. This Mumbai data center (ninth data center of the company) is dubbed DC5 and have a floor space of 3,00,000 square feet.
7. John Pombe Magufuli, the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party's candidate, with 58.46 percent of votes won Presidential elections of Tanzania. Magufuli’s closest rival Edward Lowassa of Chadema party won 39.9 percent votes in total.
8. Former Benetton India MD Sanjeev Mohanty was appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of fashion focused e-commerce portal Jabong. He will take over the post with effect from December 2015.
9. American Simone Biles won a record third straight world all-around title at the Gymnastics World Championships in Glasgow. Her compatriot Gabrielle Douglas, the reigning Olympic gold medalist, took silver and Larisa Andreea Iordache of Romania won bronze.
10. Eminent scientist P.M. Bhargava became the first scientist of country who announced to return his Padma Bhushan award to protest against “the central government’s attack on rationalism, reasoning and science”. Pushpa Mitra Bhargava is a noted biologist of India. He is known for establishing the Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in 1977.
