On a grand scale never seen before in Marathi theatre, featuring soul-stirring original music and under the direction of legendary director Chandrakant Kulkarni, the play will start its journey across Maharashtra from Mumbai
Zee Marathi's first theatre drama, Hamlet, is all set to enthrall audiences with the Marathi adaption of Shakespeare's iconic play from 27th April onwards at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Dadar. On a grand scale never seen before in Marathi theatre, featuring soul-stirring original music and under the direction of legendary director Chandrakant Kulkarni, the play will start its journey across Maharashtra from Mumbai.
The drama has already received an overwhelming response with online bookings being sold out for the first two plays and running almost full for the third day.
The star studded cast features Sumit Raghvan who will play the anguished prince Hamlet, Tushar Dalvi and Mughda Godbole as the king and Queen of Denmark respectively, supported by Sunil Tavde, Manva Naik and Bhushan Pradhan.
Zee Marathi's entry into the Marathi theatre space marks a step forward in attaining its ambitious philosophy – Jithe Marathi, Tithe Zee Marathi (wherever there is Marathi, there will also be Zee Marathi). Marathi theatre dramas, colloquially known as Natya, form a cornerstone of Marathi culture and hold a treasured spot in the minds of every Maharashtrian. This is clear in the strong and loyal audience base enjoyed by theatre plays across Maharashtra at a time when the theatre industry in most part of India is facing tough times.
Nilesh Mayekar, Business Head of Zee Marathi said, “While organizing this year's Zee Natya Gaurav Puraskar (the only Marathi theatre awards show), we saw exceptional entries in both the commercial and experiment theatre space. While it gives us great pride to be a part of and to add to this rich & dynamic heritage we are also humbled by the overwhelming response given by audiences.”
